About

Civil engineer, then auditor, then — once the tools got good enough — someone who ships software.

Audit and investigation

Since 2018 I have worked in internal audit at two insurance companies — Anadolu Sigorta, and Turkcell Digital Insurance since 2023. Most of what I have found interesting has been on the investigation side.

The cases I still think about are the ones where nothing was broken. Every control had operated exactly as written, the paperwork was complete, and the money had still gone to the wrong place. You only see those by looking across transactions rather than at any one of them.

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and trained in fraud investigation and interrogation techniques.

The habit that work leaves you with is a particular way of looking at any system: if I wanted to abuse this, where would I start? If something went wrong here, where would it hide? That question turns out to be just as useful pointed at software as at a claims department.

Engineering

Before audit I worked in structural engineering: the main terminal superstructure at Istanbul Airport, then coordination between the design office and the site on Marmaray. Large projects where the gap between the drawing and what actually gets built is where the problems live.
